Sunday 30th of October, the golf club held its annual Home International Golf Tournament, with members nailing the allegiance to the respective nationalities.
With 72 players taking part, representing England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland, golf again was played in fantastic conditions given the time of year.
Captain would like to thank everyone who took part, also, those who stood in at very short notice, I think an enjoyable day was had by all.
My particular thanks go to Merlyn Roberts, Terry Hoare and John Andrews for organising the Wales, Ireland and Scotland teams respectively (Thank you to Captain also for all his hard work and organizational skills on the day - Ian).
With an American Greensome format, using a stableford scoring system, there were nine pairs in each team with the best six cards to count, unless in the event of a tie, the seventh card would be taken into consideration.
The results being as follows.
My congratulations go to Welsh Captain Merlyn for the Welsh Victory albeit on the Seventh Card, a fantastically close event.
Best scores of the day were as follows:
Well done to the above eight golfers who all received vouchers.
My thanks also to the Ladies for taking part, a fantastic club event.

Our Pride of the Midlands Golf Event took place on Sunday 2nd October
We were blessed with perfect playing conditions, which was only matched by the organisation of the event by Dave Guest and his team. Growing ever more popular with each year, it was great to see 72 players out playing.
Our thanks go to Lady Captain and Vice Lady Captain, Maureen Badger and Claire Davies for their help on the desk and the selling of raffle tickets. We would also like to thank Trevor Hoare for his help on the day as well. Terry was later given a yellow card, as he decided to remove his team shirt in celebration. But we're still trying to work out how an Irish Man can support Aston Villa. I'm sure there is a connection somewhere.
Our thanks go to the members for their fantastic support, yet again, for a Competition all in aid of Charity. A staggering £559.00 was raised to go to our Children's Hospital Fund. Thank you all.
We would also like to thank Ian Sludge-Lees for taking the time out to come and play and also for his quite memorable performance after the golf.
Our thanks also to Robbie Dennison and Andy Blair for joining us on the day, we really do appreciate them taking the time to play.
Many thanks to Keith Fenby for the pictures he lovingly created as prizes for the winners/guests

Personal congratulations go to Pete Houghton captain of the Villa Team on their success (again) - well done, and also to Andy and Justin who's excellent score, tipped the balance in the favour of the Villa Team.
My final thanks must go to Dave Guest for the wonderful day he organised and the food and entertainment he provided. A quite memorable day.
Well done Dave.
Many thanks
Captain.

The Seniors Past Captains Day at Home was played on Friday 30th September.
Club Captain Andy Harper and President Brian Stokes, joined the current Senior Captain Trevor Norman and many Past Senior Captains for their Day at Home.
A wonderful 10 Hole Competition played in beautiful weather conditions preceded a four course meal.
Many thanks to Martin Parish for organising the day, which was enjoyed by all.
Results being:
Captain's Log, many thanks to Martin Parish for his kind invite.
I was delighted to be able to join the Seniors Past Captains for their Day at home, and also find out what a senior handicap is all about (I don't think they will be so generous next time).
In true Captain's spirit, the bottle of whiskey that was won, was duly put up in the bar. Captain noted it didn't last long!!.
Halesowen Golf club members, would like to wish Dave and Tilly Guest a very Happy wedding anniversary, today 22nd September.
6 years married and working together, and still smiling. Not sure who should have the medal looking at Dave pic below. Joking.
Hope you enjoyed your Bucks Fizz breakfast and wish you all the verybest and have a Happy Day and many, many more happy years together.
On Sunday the 18th of September, the Annual All Sections Vase took place. An annual event between the Four Sections of the Golf Club, with the Gentlemen Members and the Juniors being predominant winners for the last number of years, it was somewhat of a surprise when the Senior Section won, closely followed by the Ladies Section with the Gentlemen third and the Juniors 4th.
An event first started in 1988 by the then current Captains, Colin Handy and Ruth Woodward. Club Captain's Andy Harper and Maureen Badger were delighted that Ruth and Colin had taken the time to come down and present the All Sections Vase Trophy, to the Senior Captain Mr Trevor "Bandit" Norman.
We were delighted to get a good response from the membership for the event and were also blessed with great weather.
Many thanks
Captain Andy
Another teriffic social event was well attended on Saturday 17th Sept, in the presence of The Black Country's own, Nipper Thomas (pictured).
The jokes came thick and fast and he had us all in stitches from start to finish. Thank You Nipper.
Not only did we have a treat for our ears, there was one in store for our bellies as well, with some traditional and extremely tasty, Black Country Fayre.
To top the night off, we had a Black Country Quiz, fused together by our Honorary Black Country Expert (not) Ian 'Northern Bloke' Davies. The winners of the Quiz, after some deliberation, were Angela Norman and her team, with 24 out of 30. Bennetts & Co. finished with the same score, but failed in the draw. A very good effort from both teams and well done to all teams who enetered and raised £30.00 for The Captain's Charity.
Many thanks to all those concerned with the organisation of such a fabulous night and keep your eyes peeled for the next one.
The Men's Invitation Open was played on Saturday 10th September 2011

Claire held her Vice Captains day at home on Wednesday 24th August. A word from our Lady Vice Captain.....
My sincere thanks to all the ladies who helped to make my day at home so enjoyable. I was overwhelmed by the response of the ladies and it was super to see you all enjoy the day.
In the main, the weather was kind to us, just a few spots of rain during late afternoon. It was lovely to see our non-playing ladies take part in the putting competition, thank you Ruth, Vera, Val and Jeanne.
Sadly some of our ladies had to refrain from playing due to injury/recovery from an operation, however, I was truly grateful that you came to support the day and hope you enjoyed chatting to friends. I would also like to wish you a speedy recovery.
There were a variety of competitions to take part in and the results were as follows:
Congratulations to you all.... Claire Davies.
Maureen held her Captains day at home on Wednesday 3rd August.
As the August newsletter was a joint club newsletter celebrating the Captain’s charity weekend, the lady Captain did not have the opportunity to thank all the ladies who supported her day at home.
A word from our LadyCaptain.....
I would like to thank all the ladies for supporting my day and once again it was lovely to see our non-playing ladies as well as our playing section. We had been extremely fortunate with the weather during this month and it was a lovely, hot day.
The winner from Division 1 was Alison Bennett and from Division 2 was Dorothy Hughes.
Well done also to Chris Rollings, Chris Stokes, Anne Solloway, Angela Norman, Olwyn Gore, Audrey Parry and Elsie Hingley for winning prizes.
