Seniors win All Sections Vase for only the 3rd time in 24 Years.
On Sunday the 18th of September, the Annual All Sections Vase took place. An annual event between the Four Sections of the Golf Club, with the Gentlemen Members and the Juniors being predominant winners for the last number of years, it was somewhat of a surprise when the Senior Section won, closely followed by the Ladies Section with the Gentlemen third and the Juniors 4th.
An event first started in 1988 by the then current Captains, Colin Handy and Ruth Woodward. Club Captain's Andy Harper and Maureen Badger were delighted that Ruth and Colin had taken the time to come down and present the All Sections Vase Trophy, to the Senior Captain Mr Trevor "Bandit" Norman.
We were delighted to get a good response from the membership for the event and were also blessed with great weather.

Black Country Night
Another teriffic social event was well attended on Saturday 17th Sept, in the presence of The Black Country's own, Nipper Thomas (pictured).
The jokes came thick and fast and he had us all in stitches from start to finish. Thank You Nipper.
Not only did we have a treat for our ears, there was one in store for our bellies as well, with some traditional and extremely tasty, Black Country Fayre.
To top the night off, we had a Black Country Quiz, fused together by our Honorary Black Country Expert (not) Ian 'Northern Bloke' Davies. The winners of the Quiz, after some deliberation, were Angela Norman and her team, with 24 out of 30. Bennetts & Co. finished with the same score, but failed in the draw. A very good effort from both teams and well done to all teams who enetered and raised £30.00 for The Captain's Charity.
Many thanks to all those concerned with the organisation of such a fabulous night and keep your eyes peeled for the next one.

The live band was excellent, producing a medley of hits from the past. Many thanks to all those involved and to Dave, Tilly and staff.

Captains' Charity Weekend
The Captains' Charity weekend was a resounding success, with everything (barring Sunday afternoon's weather) running like clockwork. The amount raised was a staggering sum and the largest ever recorded at Halesowen Golf Club.
There was some great golf played, followed by a wonderful presentation evening, initiated by a very moving and heartfelt speech from our Captain, and then a wonderful performance by Julian Smith (yes, the one from 'Britain's Got Talent').
HGC would like to say a great big "Thank You", to everybody who contributed in any way, in making the day such a runaway success, but especially to our Captain and Lady Captain.
Please click here for results.
A word from our Captain.
"Can I first start by putting on record that I have never Met Victoria Beckham and most certainly not on (Seven) occasions. (see link).
The Lady Captain and I would like to place on record our deep appreciation for the fantastic support that we had on Charity Weekend. There was never any intention to set any kind of record for the amount we've raised, we just wanted to do the best we could for our chosen charities, Cure Leukaemia and Birmingham Childrens Hospital. We handed over a cheque for Cure Leukaemia for £4850, with approximately £1,500 in the bank for a presentation to BirminghamChildren's Hospital in November.
This brings the total somewhere in the region of £6,350.00 (A Fantastic Achievement and one which every member can be extremely proud).
We would also like to place on record our appreciation to our tee sponsors, for the sponsoring of the tee's and also our willing band of helpers who ensured the weekend would be a success.
Thanks particularly go to Joyce Parkes, Ian & Claire Davies, Paul Badger, Linda and John Gillett, Elaine and Gemma Harper, Steve Collins, Dave Gough, Martin Parish, Trevor & Angela Norman, Kevin Hilliard and of course, everybody who donated prizes for the auctions and raffles..
We would also like to thank Clare Waldron from Cure Leukaemia for taking the time and trouble to be with us on Sunday for the presentation and also our entertainer Mr Julian Smith".
